The Narrowcast Services Gateway  NSG 8204 is a high-capacity edge device ideal for large-scale video-on-demand (VOD) deployments in cable TV systems. The NSG 8204 is based on standard Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) and ASI interfaces and a VOD-optimized MPEG-2 multiplexing core that give cable operators flexibility in designing their VOD architectures. It measures only a single rack unit high, helping save space in a crowded hub or headend.

 

The NSG 8204 receives MPEG-2 content from its two GbE inputs and routes it to 4 ASI outputs. The NSG 8204 receives the stream over Gigabit Ethernet, filters the appropriate streams, extracts the MPEG-2 content from the received UDP/IP/GbE frames, and performs multiplexing for each DVB-ASI Transport Stream (TS) simultaneously. The NSG 8204 provides up to 640 Mbps of MPEG-2 content and can support up to 160 subscribers simultaneously.
